PlayReactive is thrilled to be working with the Museum of Australian Democracy (MOAD), located in Old Parliament House in Canberra. The museum is dedicated to celebrating the spirit of Australian democracy and the power of our voices within it.
MOAD is building a permanent interactive exhibition that aims to teach the history and function of democracy and inspire people to be involved with the future of democracy. The exhibition is divided into segments that each focus on a different topic: rule of law, strong and accountable government, personal freedom, property and land, and more.
As part of the process of researching and designing this exhibition about the history, function, and future of democracy, PlayReactive and MOAD are running Democracy Lab – bringing game designers, historians, and political scientists together for three days of learning, imagining, prototyping, and giving feedback. The aim of the lab is to exchange knowledge, to get more eyes on the project in its very early, malleable stages, and to propose and test concepts for the exhibition, working in conjunction with experts in a variety of fields.
We’re looking for people with a background, interest, or expertise in interaction design, experience design, narrative design, exhibition design, installation art, game making, pedagogy, and other related fields to join the lab. This is an opportunity to learn, explore, speculate, create, and connect. It’s part workshop, part feedback forum, part game jam – though there are no expectations for polished outcomes, we’re hoping there will be plenty of ideas and playable prototypes.
Democracy Lab is part of a longer conversation: we hope to run other more public facing events in association with MOAD, and we’re excited to connect the museum with creative experts for future collaborations. Participants retain intellectual property rights for whatever they come up with during the lab.
